Town Centre Radiology

Town Centre Radiology provides a complete network of imaging services and specialist care.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound  is used in a wide variety of diagnostic situations, and we perform a complete range of ultrasound examinations, including musculoskeletal, general, soft tissue, vascular, abdominal and obstetrics and gynaecology. We also have a highly skilled radiologist on-site to perform interventional injections, aspirations and biopsies under ultrasound guidance. Ultrasounds are a highly safe form of medical imaging and are generally a comfortable examination to undergo.

Please make sure you bring your referral letter and Medicare card (if you have one). The more information you can bring to the appointment, the better, so try and collate any other previous medical images or reports that relate to your current condition.

No preparation is needed for musculoskeletal ultrasounds, ultrasound-guided injection, or biopsy procedures. At the time of booking we will let you know how to prepare your procedure. For some studies, such as renal, abdominal, gynaecological and pelvic ultrasounds – you may need to fast or drink plenty of water beforehand. Ultrasounds may require changing into a gown – the sonographer (person whom will do your examination) will let you know when you arrive.

Depending on the area’s location to be scanned, you may be asked to change into a gown. A gel is applied to the skin, and the probe is moved over the skin of the examination area. You may be required to move into a few different positions or hold your breath whilst the area of interest is scanned and images of the anatomy taken. The sonographer will ask you questions throughout the procedure to ensure they provide the best examination.

Depending on the complexity of the examination, it can take as little as ten to  fifteen minutes or up to one hour.

You will need to see your referring doctor following an ultrasound. We will provide your doctor with the images from the examination. We aim to have all examinations interpreted by our Radiologist on the day they are undertaken and make available to your referring practitioner, the report once reviewed and approved by the radiologist.
